Dreamworks Animation came to San Diego Comic-Con to present Penguins of Madagascar starring Benedict Cumberbatch (voice of Classified), John Malkovich (voice of Dave) and Ken Jeong (voice of Short Fuse). The animated feature is written by John Aboud and Michael Colton; and is directed by Eric Darnell (Madagascar) and Simon J. Smith (Bee Movie, Shrek).
In the Penguins of Madagascar, audiences will discover the secrets of the most entertainingly mysterious birds in the global espionage game. Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private now must join forces with the chic spy organization, the North Wind, led by Agent Classified (we could tell you his name, but then… you know) to stop the cunning villain Dr. Octavius Brine from taking over the world.
The Penguins of Madagascar is released on 14 November (USA) and 5 December (UK)
Comic-Con Panel with Benedict Cumberbatch
Benedict answered questions from fans during a Q & A and hinted about the possibility of returning to Comic-Con next year, to present Sherlock Series 4 if his schedule allows him to. He talked about what attracting him to the role, his experience as a voice-over artist and how it compares to narrating plays and other works on the radio, while mentioning the fact he’d only met John Malkovich for the first time the night before. “The Hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolkien was one of the first books he read as a child, which sparked his interest in the written word and the power they hold in creating those imaginary worlds. Cumberbatch would be really interested in doing Dr. Strange but he mentioned to Josh Horowitz from MTV (see interview below) that it would be tricky as he’s also doing “Hamlet” on stage in London.
Dreamworks revealed 4 new clips during the panel and released a first of those clips last night: “The Headquarters”
